This 1956 Ford Thunderbird was originally delivered to Maywood Bell Ford in Bell, California and was reportedly shown at the 1982 Veedol Motor Oil Auto Show in Berlin, Germany before being acquired by the seller in June 2017. It is finished in Sunset Coral over two-tone brown and white vinyl and is powered by a 312ci V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Originally ordered in Buckskin Tan (J), the car has been repainted Sunset Coral some time under previous ownership. Exterior features include a color-matched removable hardtop with porthole windows, chrome bumpers with integrated dual exhaust outlets at the rear, a spare tire carrier, a hood scoop, rear fender skirts, and a driver-side mirror.
Body-colored steel wheels wear polished covers and are mounted with whitewall tires. The car is equipped with power steering and power-assisted drum brakes at each corner.
The interior features two-tone brown and white vinyl (XG) upholstery, along with chrome and engine-turned aLents on the dashboard and doors. Amenities include a four-way power bench seat with lap belts, brown carpeting, a push-button AM radio, electric windows, a locking glove compartment, and an analog clock. The seller notes the radio is inoperable.
A three-spoke steering wheel frames a 150-mph speedometer, a 5k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer is inoperable and shows 89k miles.
The 312ci Y-block V8 was rated at 245 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque when new and is equipped with a Holley four-barrel “teapot” carburetor. An Engle camshaft and a dual point distributor were reportedly installed during an engine overhaul some time ago prior to a sale in August 2005. The engine was repainted, resealed, and inspected in July 2020.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission that was reportedly resealed in July 2020.
