This 1956 GMC Suburban pickup is one of just under 1,000 examples produced from 1955 and 1957, and it reportedly underwent a frame-off refurbishment under previous ownership in Oregon. Refinished in two-tone ivory and turquoise over a matching interior, the truck is powered by a 317ci V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Other features include redone oak bed flooring, a chrome-finished grille, color-keyed 16″ steel wheels, a hidden spare-tire compartment, a bench seat, a heater, and a 12-volt electrical system. The current owner acquired the truck in 2008 and has since added approximately 1k miles.
The GMC Suburban was based on the ½-ton Chevrolet Cameo pickup and was marketed as a more prestigious model. The previous owner is said to have removed the body from the frame for refinishing in two-tone ivory and turquoise, and the windshield and vent windows have been replaced.
Color-keyed 16″ steel wheels wear hubcaps with red-painted centers and are mounted with 215/85 Trailcat LT all-season tires. The spare tire is located in a hidden compartment underneath the tailgate.
The truck features fiberglass rear fenders attached to a steel bed box, and the bed floor has been redone in varnished oak planks placed between chrome divider strips.
The interior features a bench seat with white upholstery and patterned blue cloth inserts. The cab is not equipped with a radio, and a heater is mounted below the dashboard.
A two-tone steering wheel frames a turquoise dashboard with instrumentation that includes an 80-mph speedometer and four auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer is said to have been reset when the truck was refurbished and shows just under 1,100 miles, nearly all of which have been added under current ownership.
The 316.6ci V8 was shared with Pontiac and was rated for 180 horsepower when new. The engine features a two-barrel carburetor as well as a 12-volt electrical system with a generator and a voltage regulator.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission.
