This 1968 Marcos 1600 GT was acquired by the seller in May 2020. A replacement body and plywood chassis were sourced Marcos Engineering Ltd, and the car is finished in orange over black. Power comes from a modified 1.7-liter crossflow inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission and a 3.73:1 rear end. Equipment includes 13″ Minilite-style wheels, front disc brakes, dual Weber carburetors, a Piper 300 camshaft, Maxpeedingrods connecting rods, an HPE finned valve cover, a tubular header, an aluminum radiator with an electric fan, air conditioning, electric windows, and a Luisi steering wheel. Work conducted during the seller’s ownership included rebuilding the tachometer, rewiring the thermostat, repairing a coolant leak and the passenger-side window mechanism, servicing the carburetors, and adjusting the engine positioning.
The Marcos GT was initially engineered using fiberglass bodywork over a monocoque plywood chassis. Under previous ownership, this example is said to have received a replacement body and plywood chassis components from Marcos Engineering Ltd prior to being finished in orange. Features include headlight housings with a carbon-fiber-style wrap, exposed hood latches, a polished fuel filler, and a single exhaust outlet. The car is not equipped with windshield wipers or a deck-lid stay.
Silver-finished 13″ Minilite-style wheels are mounted with 205/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums. An alignment was carried out in June 2020.
The black interior features custom elements such as leather upholstery with black metal grommets and the integration of a Restomod Air climate-control system. Additional interior features include bolstered seats, black carpeting, electric windows, and a dome light. The passenger-side window mechanism was repaired in July 2020.
A Luisi three-spoke steering wheel fronts a black dashboard that houses Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and center-stack-mounted auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer indicates 70k miles.
The Ford Kent crossflow inline-four sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a 3.73:1 rear end. The engine was rebuilt under previous ownership and displacement was increased to 1.7 liters. Additional details include the following:
Work performed by Vintage Underground of Eugene, Oregon under current ownership included rewiring the thermostat, repairing a coolant leak, and tuning and rejetting the carburetors. The engine also was shifted over by approximately 1/8″ to eliminate contact with the steering shaft.
