This 1968 Triumph TR4A IRS was purchased new in Tennessee and was acquired by the seller in 2015, reportedly from the estate of its original owner. The car is finished in red over black leather and powered by a 2,138L inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. Equipment includes independent rear suspension, dual SU carburetors, 15″ Minilite wheels, and a luggage rack. Work carried out during current ownership included installing a replacement transmission and clutch, a stainless steel exhaust, a black Robbins canvas top, and a carpet kit.
The car was factory-finished in Signal Red (25) and features a replacement black canvas Robbins top installed in 2017. Brightwork includes a chrome grille, bullet-style driver’s mirror, a trunk-mounted luggage rack, and bumpers with overriders.
Alloy 15″ Minilite wheels with Triumph-branded center caps wear 165-series Widetrack Radial tires, and a spare steel wheel is included in the trunk. Braking is handled by front discs along with rear drums, and the car is equipped with independent rear suspension.
The bucket seats are trimmed in black leather with white piping, and additional features include a wooden shift knob, a heater, Triumph-branded floor mats, and a map light mounted on the glovebox door. The AM radio is non-functional and a black soft top boot and a pair of sheepskin seat covers aLompany the vehicle.
A banjo-style steering wheel sits ahead of a wood-veneer dashboard that shows cracks and wear. Jaeger instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 65k miles, approximately 5k of which were added by the seller, although total mileage is unknown.
The 2,138L inline-four is fitted with dual SU carburetors and open-element air cleaners.
Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a replacement four-speed transmission with overdrive, which was installed along with a Borg & Beck clutch kit in 2017 by Ric Cline’s British Cars of Shady Dale, Georgia.
