This 1973 Land Rover 88 Series III was acquired by the seller from Peter’s Marina Motors of Venice, California in 2000. It is finished in tan over a black vinyl interior and is powered by a 2.25-liter inline-four mated to a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Features include a removable tropical-style top, 15″ steel wheels, side mirrors, sliding windows, and a tow ball, while modifications include an auxiliary fuel tank, forward-facing rear jump seats, lap belts, and Pertronix electronic ignition. Service under current ownership has included a radiator recore, a transmission rebuild, front suspension work, and replacement of the alternator, brake master cylinder, clutch master cylinder, and battery.
The truck is said to have been refinished in tan under prior ownership and features a matching removable tropical-style roof. Additional exterior equipment includes side mirrors, a rear tire carrier, rear and side steps, a tow ball, and sliding windows. The window and roof seals reportedly were replaced in 2011.
Body-color 15″ steel wheels are shod with 235/75 Goodyear Wrangler tires that show 2017 date codes, and a full-size spare wheel and tire are mounted to the hood. The front axle is equipped with manual-locking Warn hubs. The tie rods, swivel balls, brake lines, U-joints, and axle bearings are said to have been replaced in 2004, and the brake master cylinder was replaced in June 2021.
The cab has three front seats along with forward-facing jump seats located in the cargo area. Features include black vinyl upholstery, black carpeting, front and rear lap belts, a Smiths heater, and a dome light. A tear is shown in the middle-front seat, and the rear door seals are in need of replacement.
Jaeger and Smiths instrumentation consists of a 90-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 80k miles.
The gasoline-fueled 2.25-liter inline-four is equipped with Pertronix electronic ignition that was installed in April 2021. Service performed under current ownership is said to have included recoring the radiator in 2003, replacing the alternator in 2015, rebuilding the carburetor in 2017, and installing a new battery in April 2021.
Power is routed to the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed manual transmission that is said to have been rebuilt in 2014. Additional service reportedly included replacement of the exhaust manifold in 2002 along with the clutch master cylinder in 2006.
