This 1976 Triumph Spitfire was modified by its previous owner over the course of a decade with an inline-six and a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The car is finished in Java Green over tan leather, and additional equipment includes a replacement tan soft top, Rotoflex independent rear suspension, GT6 front suspension and brake components, a GT6-style hood bulge, electronic ignition, a stainless steel exhaust system, and 13″ alloy wheels.
The body was finished from the factory in Java Green (85) and repainted under prior ownership. The bumpers are said to have been rechromed at that time and a GT6-style top panel with “power bump” was added. A front air dam and wing windows from a GT6 were also installed, and the weatherstripping, door handles, taillights, and side markers are said to have been replaced. The hood has custom gas struts to hold it up and the front Spitfire emblem is missing.
Alloy 13″ wheels wear 185/60 Toyo Proxes r888 tires. The brakes were refreshed and equipped with GT6-sourced vented front discs and rear drums with braided stainless steel lines and a re-sleeved master cylinder. According to the seller, the suspension features GT6-style front towers and springs, Koni shocks, and Rotoflex independent rear suspension. A replacement steering rack, bushings, ball joints, and tie rod ends were installed under prior ownership. Spitfire-style springs and shocks are included in the sale and the seller notes the car recently received an alignment.
The interior was refreshed under prior ownership with reupholstered tan leather seats fitted with replacement foam padding, along with matching leather door panels and replacement black carpets. Aftermarket sound deadening was added to the floors, and the car is equipped with a heater. Leather used in the refurbishment was reportedly sourced from Connolly in England.
A three-spoke steering wheel fronts a wood dashboard housing Smiths instrumentation that includes a 120-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer shows 43k miles.
The inline-six features Megajolt electronic ignition, a high-torque starter, front pulley with timing sensor, and dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors. The engine was reportedly overhauled and bored .020″ over under prior ownership, TR6 pistons and crankshaft added, and the cylinder head is also said to have been refreshed with unleaded exhaust seats, valves, and guides. A replacement timing chain, alternator, water and fuel pumps, GT6-style stainless steel exhaust system, and three-core radiator were also installed at that time. An oil change was more recently performed and the battery was replaced.
Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with J-type overdrive that was reportedly overhauled with Triumph Dolomite internals by Canley Classics of Fillongley, Warwickshire, England under prior ownership.
