This 1980 Mercedes-Benz 300GD is said to have been imported to the US circa 2013, was acquired by its current owner five years later, and was subsequently modified for overland travel and camping. The truck is finished in satin olive green over black and white tartan upholstery, and a replacement 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-five drives all four wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and locking differentials. Additional equipment includes a Front Runner roof rack and water tanks as well as a CVT rooftop tent, a Warn winch, a military-style rear bumper, G-Professional side mirrors, recovery aLessories, black steel wheels, and a Bluetooth stereo.
Previously painted red, the exterior was refinished in its current satin green under previous ownership. The Front Runner roof rack houses a CVT rooftop tent as well as spare fuel tanks, a water jug with a hose, a set of recovery tracks, and a Hi-Lift jack. Other modifications include a rear ladder, a removable Warn winch with a roller fairlead, twin rear bumpers flanking a tow hitch, and G-Professional side mirrors.
Black-finished 16″ steel wheels with Mercedes-Benz center caps wear 235/85 Mastercraft Courser MXT tires. A matching spare is mounted to the rear door. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums, and the system was flushed in June 2020.
The five-place cabin features black vinyl upholstery with black and white tartan cloth seat faces that match the door panel inserts. Amenities include a heater and an aftermarket Jensen stereo, the latter of which features Bluetooth, a USB input, and a set of marine speakers.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 180-km/h speedometer, two coolant temperature gauges, a fuel gauge, and differential lock indicators. An exhaust gas temperature gauge has been installed to the left of the steering column, and a clock is located in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 48k kilometers (~30k miles).
The 3.0-liter OM617 turbodiesel inline-five was installed by Hartmann Motors of Portland, Oregon in July 2020. Additional work included a valve adjustment as well as replacement of the clutch, alternator, starter, aLessory drive belts, and engine mounts. A crack in the oil pan was welded and a leak in the fuel tank repaired. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to all four wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox, a dual-range transfer case, and locking front and rear differentials. A note in the service records below indicates that the front axles pop when the differential locks are engaged.
