This 1984 Mercedes-Benz 500SL is a European market example that was imported to the US by Houston Motorcars of Texas in 1984. The car was acquired by the seller in 2014, and service performed since then has included repairs of the anti-lock braking system, fluid changes, and a replacement battery, spark plugs, and suspension components.
Finished from the factory in Silver Blue Metallic (930), the body was repainted some time during prior ownership and is equipped with an AMG body kit that consists of a revised rear bumper cover, side skirts, and front and rear spoilers. An AMG badge has been added to the decklid, and additional exterior features include a blue soft top, a removable body-colored hardtop, a wind blocker, a power-adjustable passenger-side mirror, fog lights, and headlamp washers.
Silver 17″ AMG wheels are mounted with Nitto NT555 Extreme ZR rubber up front and Bridgestone Potenza tires at the rear. A spare is secured in the trunk, and the car is equipped with AMG lowering springs and and shocks as well as stainless steel braided brake lines. Service in 2020 is said to have included repairing the anti-lock braking system, a brake fluid flush, and a replacement ball joint, front suspension bushings, and front brake pads, sensors, and slotted and cross-drilled rotors.
The heated seats are upholstered in Blue leather (252), and the cabin features a matching dash, carpeting, and door panels. Wood trim adorns the dash, center stack, and console, and additional amenities include a Kenwood stereo, power windows, and floor mats.
VDO instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6k-rpm redline. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 107k miles.
The 5.0-liter V8 features an MSD ignition system and sends power to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. The battery has been relocated to the trunk, and recent work includes an oil change and a replacement fuel filter and spark plugs.
The sale includes a hardtop stand, owner’s manuals, service records, a tool kit, and a fold-out warning triangle.
