This 1965 Pontiac GTO hardtop is finished Matador Red over black vinyl and powered by a 389ci V8 paired with an M21 four-speed manual transmission. The car resided in Seattle before being imported to Canada in 1988 and was later acquired by the current owner in 2016 and refurbished. Features include Tri-Power induction, the Rally Gauge package, dual exhaust, a dual-speed wiper motor, and 14″ steel wheels. Work since 2018 has consisted of replacing the alternator, water pump, fuel pump, engine bay wiring harness, clutch Z-bar, hood hinges, starter, master brake cylinder, wheel brake cylinders, brake shoes, brake lines, fuel lines, and fuel tank.
The car is said to have been refinished in Matador Red during refurbishment. Details include chrome bumpers, stacked headlamps, a driver-side mirror, and bright-finished rocker panel and wheel-well trim. The GTO option package included a hood scoop, GTO badges, and dual exhaust tips. The trunk floor and rear quarter panels are said to have been replaced.
The 14″ steel wheels were refinished in black during the refurbishment and are mounted with 225/70 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. Braking is handled by hydraulic four-wheel drums.. The frame is said to have been sandblasted and powder coated and the brake lines, bushings, shocks, wheel cylinders, and brake shoes have been replaced.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in black vinyl with a matching dash, carpets, and door panels. Additional interior appointments include lap belts, a Hurst shifter with a cueball knob, vent windows, manual windows, and a push-button AM radio.
The two-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, water temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer indicates 66k miles, approximately 1k of which have been added by the seller. The tachometer and wood grain dash veneer are said to have been replaced. The seller notes the dash temperature gauge does not work so a mechanical temperature gauge has been installed under the dash.
The 389ci V8 features Tri-Power induction and was factory rated at 360 horsepower. Work since 2018 has reportedly included a valve job with installation of hardened valve seats and replacement of fuel tank and lines, alternator, water pump, fuel pump, starter, and engine bay wiring harness. An oil change was performed in preparation for sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through an M21 close-ratio four-speed manual transmission. The clutch, pressure plate, pilot bushing, and throw-out bearing are said to have been replaced, and the transmission has reportedly been overhauled.
